Learning New Skills Through Entrepreneurship

I am a 9 year old who loves making and playing with swords and dragons. My parents help me with making and selling.

How I Make Wood Swords

1. We buy 3″x8″ unfinished boards and then outline using a template on each board.

2. Then we cut out rough cut sword sections using a miter saw.

3. My parents help me with the routing table to get the edges rounded on each cut.

4. Then we cut out the handle/grip using a jig saw and then do a final with a router table to keep the handles straight.

5. Next, we use the miter saw again to create the 45deg point on top.

6. After that the only thing left on the swords is sanding all sides down.

7. Back to the unfinished boards for the guards. Just like the swords, first we rough cut them using a miter saw.

8. Next, we use a template to rough cut the center rectangle using a template. We start the hole with a spade bit and then use a jig saw to make it wider. It is later sanded down.

9. Both sword and guard are then painted and left to dry overnight.

10. To finish up – the guards are screwed into the sword and then I wrap a paracord around the handle for a stronger grip. Parents help me burn the ends on the paracord.
